Why Microsoft Hosted Exchange?

Let’s start with the others

In today's world, email is your primary means of communication, and what was up for grabs five years ago, compared to today are very different. If you are like most people, you probably think email is email, or if you have heard words like POP, Exchange or IMAP they probably don't mean much to you, until one day your laptop won't turn on. When you finally hit the power switch on your new laptop, to your shock, only a hand full of your old emails are there. You, unfortunately, have just been diagnosed with what we call "Chicken POP's".

IMAP - Microsoft Exchange Wannabe

If you were lucky enough and were using IMAP, you will certainly be happier than old Chicken Pops. With IMAP, your emails are synchronised to your email server, so, you should at least get your emails back. Unfortunately IMAP never really broke any speed records and only synchronises your emails, so, you won’t be able to recover your contacts or calendar. Now, if you are one of those people who likes to get things done, you will get annoyed, fast, and, because most ISP's don't enforce SSL and TLS connections, Millions of people around the world are sending their bank statements, credit card details, and passwords in plain text across the internet. Intercepting those emails is easier than building a five-piece puzzle.

Hosted Exchange - The Big Boy

POP works by downloading all of your new messages from your service provider. Once they are downloaded onto your PC or Mac, they are deleted from the email server. Generally, you have about seven days that will still be on the server, however, if you didn't have a backup, you better start walking to the Bermuda Triangle, because unfortunately, that's where they are.

Now if you were lucky enough and were using IMAP, you will certainly be happier than old Chicken Pops. Unfortunately IMAP never really broke any speed records, so, if you are one of those people who likes getting things done, you will get annoyed, fast, and, because most ISP's don't enforce SSL and TLS connections, Millions of people around the world are sending their bank statements, credit card details, and passwords in plain text across the internet. Intercepting unencrypted email is easier than building a five-piece puzzle.

Now Microsoft Exchange. The Big Daddy.

Trying to explain Hosted Exchange to someone who has not used it, can only be compared to trying to explain a Tablet or cell phone to someone 10 or 50 years ago. A tablet would be ludicrous, however, today can you imagine life without your Phone? Microsoft Exchange is a Ferrari 458 Italia, with a turbocharger. Comparing Exchange to POP or IMAP is like throwing a mouse in a cage full of tigers.

Microsoft Exchange uses a protocol called MAPI. This synchronises your emails just like IMAP, but Exchange does it so much better. Exchange offers the highest level of security, speed, and has so much more to offer. Exchange doesn't just sync your email, it synchronises your contacts, calendar, even your autocomplete list. You know when you start typing an address and it pops up? That thing is called an autocomplete list.

Microsoft Exchange also works hard behind the scenes in Data Centres with features like (Database Availability Groups). This means your emails are distributed over multiple servers and even multiple Data Centres, so if a server had to completely crash, you would be none the wiser and your email would carry on working.

This is why, once you go "Exchange", you don't go back.
